SC Housing reopening Housing Choice Voucher waiting list in multiple counties

Columbia, S.C. (Jan. 11, 2024) – SC Housing will reopen its Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program waiting list for Clarendon, Colleton, Dorchester, Fairfield, Kershaw, Lee and Lexington counties in February. 

The waiting list application period will begin Monday, Feb. 5 at 8:30 a.m. and end Wednesday, Feb. 7 at 5 p.m. 

Applications for the HCV program, which is a federally-funded rental assistance program for low-income families, can be submitted online or a physical application can be requested by mail, phone, email or fax. 

SC Housing will not accept walk-in requests for an application. Applications received outside the designated application period will not be accepted.

An in-person application event will be held in Lee County only for applicants that plan to use their voucher in Lee County. 

The in-person event will be held at Chappell Park in Bishopville from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 6 at 397 Chappell Drive, Bishopville, SC 29010. Applications for other counties will not be accepted at this location. 

The amount of voucher assistance is determined by a number of factors including total annual gross income and family size. 

Between July 2022 and June 2023, SC Housing assisted 2,254 families and individuals in its 7-county service area through the HCV program.
